Updates & news

RPGadget has a new reader for your books. On the Sort step you highlight two examples of each kind of entry, and the reader uses them to find the rest. On the Review page you answer yes or no, and each answer helps it sort what comes next. Chat logs and typed notes now come in too. Books & Import New Added a new reader for your books. On the Sort step you highlight two examples of each kind of entry, and the reader uses them to find the rest. Added "Does this continue in the next column?" so entries split across columns or pages come in whole. Added one-click Trim and Extend on suggested entries, and Undo for your last answer. Added a drawer choice for lore entries, with the ones the reader is unsure about clearly marked. Added chat and notes import: bring in your campaign's chat logs or typed notes, pick the messages that matter, and file them where they belong. Off-topic chatter is faded so you can skim. Added "Suggest things" (beta) for chats and notes: the reader gathers the messages about each person, place or rule for you to check. Improved Improved importing so the new reader downloads the first time you import a book. Improved the Review page so it says the reader is still reading your book, instead of saying nothing is flagged or that everything has been reviewed, while suggestions are still on their way. Fixed Fixed a book's first read stopping partway on some long books, which left it with no suggestions. Fixed suggestions on scanned pages arriving with no words, so they could not be confirmed. Known issues The first time a large book is read, it can take a while before suggestions appear: about 3 hours for a 300-page book on a slower computer. After that it opens in seconds. Lore isn't suggested for scanned pages without a text layer yet; you can still file it by hand. "Suggest things" is in beta: it misses some facts, so check which messages it has ticked. Books imported before this version keep their entries. Choose Read again to use the new reader. App Improved Improved the opening room so the Discord link sits in the lower-left corner and is larger. At the Table Improved Improved the dice result so it shows how the total was made, such as "14 + 5 = 19" or which of two dice was kept. Fixed Fixed dice modifiers not changing the total: advantage and disadvantage now roll the extra die and keep the higher or lower, bonus dice join the pool, and a character's skill bonus is added when you roll as them or ask a player to roll that skill. Building New Added an App settings row at the bottom of a campaign's Settings page, opening the version, what's new, About / Licences and accessibility. Fixed Fixed deleting a campaign that has player characters closing the app — the campaign is deleted and its characters are kept. App New Added a Send report button when the app closes unexpectedly, showing exactly what is sent. Fixed Fixed the app closing when an action failed — it now says the action didn't work and keeps running. Fixed the app closing when the opening screen closed unexpectedly. Fixed the app closing without a word when it could not start — it now says why. Fixed Later on the update notice showing the same update again at every launch. Fixed two licence messages that named the wrong problem: a damaged licence record, and an activation that succeeded but could not be saved. Fixed a second copy of the app starting when RPGadget is already open — the open copy comes forward instead. Full notes: rpgadget.app/rpgadget/patch-notes•Today at 4:32 PM
RPGadget 0.9.22b (Hotfix) Books & Import Fixed
  • Fixed table rows being labelled with another table's name, such as a unit conversion row showing as "Computers" — each row now takes its own table's heading, a table without one asks you to name it once, and books you already imported show the right names the next time you open Review.
  • Fixed one unreadable page causing a large block of pages to be skipped — now only that page is skipped and shown to you, and adding a book again with Begin Reading reads the pages an earlier import skipped, leaving the entries you already confirmed as you set them.
App Fixed
  • Removed stray text that was showing on the Craft Your Adventure console on the opening screen.

Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition is a tactical, combat-focused tabletop roleplaying system released by Wizards of the Coast in 2008. Designed to fix the high-level math imbalances and "martial vs. caster" disparities of the 3.5E era, 4E redesigned the game's engine with a more video game adjacent approach. It is famous for its structured, grid-based combat and for standardizing class abilities into a unified system. While its dramatic departure from legacy mechanics polarized the fanbase directly paving the way for the creation of Pathfinder. 4E is widely praised today for its brilliant monster design, DM tools, and unparalleled encounter balance. The system it directly replaced is Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 Edition (2003) Description In D&D 4E, players take on the roles of heroes who are combat-capable right from the start. The system relies of combat being carried out with the use of a battle grid. Positioning plays a big part of the combat experience. The exact location of the characters matters greatly. Unlike other editions where spellcasters are played in a separate mechanical way than martial classes, 4E unifies the progression system. Every class is boiled down to a specific combat "Role" and draws from their specialized toolkit of "Powers," making the game balanced and ensuring that every character has unique and impactful actions that they can perform on their turns. System Overview & Key Features The Power System Instead of traditional spell slots or basic attacks, every class has a list of At-Will, Encounter, Daily, and Utility powers, each with different power levels and frequency at which they can be performed. Fighters can execute epic daily maneuvers just as wizards cast daily spells, creating a better balance between martial classes and spellcasters. Combat Roles All classes are sorted by their class specialization role: Defenders (tanks who draw aggro and protect their allies), Strikers (high single-target damage), Leaders (healers and support), and Controllers (area-of-effect damage and debuffers). Static Defenses Saving throws were removed and replaced with four different defense values: Armor Class, Fortitude, Reflex, and Will. When a wizard casts a fireball, they roll an attack against the targets' Reflex. Instead of both sides rolling for success and for defense - the attacker is the only one to roll dice. Healing Surges A standardized resource pool representing a character's stamina. Almost all healing in the game, whether from a cleric's spell or catching your breath, requires the target to spend a Healing Surge, which reliably heals them for exactly one-quarter of their maximum hit points. Monster Roles & Minions The Dungeon Master's toolkit was revolutionized. Monsters have explicit roles (like Brute, Artillery, or Skirmisher) that cleanly dictate their behavior. 4E also introduced "Minions". Monsters that have normal stats and deal average damage, but only have exactly 1 Hit Point, allowing heroes to cleave through cinematic hordes. Skill Challenges An unique system with 4E is Skill Challenges - a "cinematic" series of actions that turn social, environmental or escape situations into more movie-like scenes. The players must achieve a certain amount (determined by the situation) of successful skill checks, before they collect enough failed skill checks.
