Description

Welcome. This is a playtest for Lost Mine of Phandelver. If your application is accepted you will be a part of the first group to set the baseline for this world from start to finish. Help me polish this adventure and your characters may just be immortalized in some way. Expectations:
  • 4 or 5 players
  • Starting at level 4, playing from levels 4-9 (its normally designed for 1-5)
  • Aiming for Monday Sept 14th with an optional 'Session Zero' Monday Sept 7th if applications fill fast
  • 1 Free roll of stats, 4d6 drop the lowest, otherwise pointbuy (Please declare it in Roll20 chat)
  • Vanilla Forgotten Realms Dnd (mostly using rules from 5.5e, 5e classes and the like are allowed)
  • Open to a 5e rules playthrough, applications will determine.
  • Focus on questing and combat (think Tactician level difficulty)
  • Aiming for 20 sessions (with distant options to get into DoIP or ToA. Shattered Obelisk was considered but not my style)
  • For character backstories you will be assigned secrets (as seen in the adventure IDRotFM) but I am flexible here.
  • Downtime, IC conversations, shopping, etc will be encouraged over discord and less in game.
  • Possible monster card game if I have time. (Defeat a monster, gain their card, cards can lvl up, play NPCs for keeps, etc.)
No players under 18 No homebrew or Unearthed Arcana. No primarily evil characters at the start (may revisit this as the campaign progresses) Most books are allowed (list in discord) If you have a question about some popular combos (shepherd druid, coffeelock, conjure woodland beings, etc) I am flexible If you have a question about some item combos (bag of beans, equipping a familiar, illusionist bracers, etc) feel free to ask Write Gygax in your application so I can see you read this. Some brief homebrew rules (not the full list):
  • Level ups by milestones
  • Flanking, but only for Rogues
  • Anyone can grapple on an op attack, including enemies
  • Rest casting ok, but incurs 1 lvl of special exhaustion that cant be mitigated till next longrest
  • Cant benefit from a full rest in armor (unless Warforged or Autognome, etc)
  • 2 of the 8hrs rest can be done awake, however, staying awake in camp requires Con check
  • Starting gold may be rolled once in Roll20 chat.
  • Inspiration has ways of being earned (see discord)
  • Write the name 'Greenwood' in your application for free inspiration.
  • You may sell unneeded items at half price but need to wait till in game to buy stuff, initially.
  • Death saves are rolled in private (But, characters 5ft away can make a free medicine check [DC 12])
  • Characters preforming help action requires proficiency for the respective ability check.
  • We will try not to dogpile skill checks, but I may ask multiple characters for the same check
  • Druids can equip metal
  • Using surprised condition from 2024
  • Orc NPCs are evil bc Grummsh said so, Halforcs can be any alignment (players can still play anything with any alignment)
  • S, M component discrepancy mostly ignored if you have a spell focus. V components can be no quieter than a 'chant'

"Year 0" Prequel One-Shots

Homebrew
House rules, a custom setting, or a system the Game Master wrote themselves.
Newbie friendly
New players are welcome, and nobody expects you to know the rules beforehand.
Hello hello! I am Matthew. I am a new DM building a homebrew world, and I want your help filling in its history. Before my main campaign begins, I am running a series of one-shots set in "Year 0". This is when an apocalyptic cataclysm nearly ends the world. The future campaign will be set centuries afterward. When? I run my business from home and have a family, so M-F during the day works best. These one-shots will take place Tuesday through Thursday, between 9:00am and 2:00pm Central time (chicago area). If you work from home, work nights, or live in a time zone where this is your evening, this table is for you! What is it? You will play low- to mid-level heroes surviving the chaos of a larger conflict. You might be pulling off a desperate heist for a magical artifact, escorting refugees to safety, or holding the line against impossible odds. All of this happens under the shadow of the First King, whose mysterious sacrifice during this era saved the realm but cursed his bloodline forever. Legacy? Yup If you survive, I have a "Fortune & Fate" roll planned to help determine your character's epilogue. Though you will have plenty of creative control over their outcomes. Survive or not - your characters will become the myths, ancestors, and founders in the larger campaign!

High Lords of Terra (5e/5.5e homebrew) (21+)

Homebrew
House rules, a custom setting, or a system the Game Master wrote themselves.
Roleplay focused
Conversation, character and story take up most of the table time.
Intro to Terra If you’re coming from Faerûn, think of Terra as a vast continent that used to feel like one big, functioning empire. A tradition of feudalism, with noble "High Lord" houses ruling over their regions. All offering allegiance to a central authority, the most powerful noble house, Arista, and crowned it's leader as the First Lord. So the Legend Goes At the dawn of this world, the Gods watched our people struggle to survive in an unforgiving world - Early settlements decimated by violent storms. Explorers slaughtered by ferocious beasts. To have a chance at survival, these benevolent Gods gifted the lands with powerful spirits. And for the inhabitants, an ability to bond with these spirits. As these lands were conquered, creatures brought over were quickly surpassed by Humans, who found they could tame and even command these spirits. For thousands of years, these settlers fought and struggled to secure as much power for themselves as possible. Anarchy, chaos, and endless bloodshed, with the most vulnerable most at risk. It was not until those wielding the most powerful elemental magic banded together that law and order was able to form. Rather than fighting each other, they spread across the lands in a uniform effort to end the violence. Forming what are now known to be the High Lords of Terra. These High Lords rallied behind the most powerful among them, First Lord of House Arista. For generations, there was peace among the world. Humans across Terra in harmony with one another and their spirit blessings, working together to build great cities, sprawling farmlands, relying on each other for protection. The Civil War starts... Nearly one hundred years ago, tragedy struck when the First Lord passed away, leaving behind two sons with competing claims to the throne. The older son, born of an illegitimate affair with the High Lady of House Kalara, vied for the throne against his younger brother, son to the First Lord's wife. The conflict immediately turned bloody amongst the High Lords. On one side stood the loyalists, supporting House Arista and the rightful heir to the throne as appointed by the King's betrothed. On the other stood the would be usurping traditionalists, who sought to uphold the laws of succession. They rallied behind House Kalara. Now, a century later, the realm remains divided, locked in a never-ending struggle for power and dominance. The loyalist houses of Teos, Retosia, and Pytion stand firm in their support of House Arista, while the traditionalist houses of Sultern, Rhodes, and Toria remain steadfast in their allegiance to House Kalara. As the conflict rages on, the fate of the realm hangs in the balance. One thing is certain - It cannot survive another century of civil war. A Forgotten Evil Stirs... While the realm is torn apart by war, a new shadow rises. Mysterious disappearances reported near the uninhabited forest. Legend of an undisturbed kingdom made of wax in it's center. Ghost stories of an ancient evil laying dormant... now waking up. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello! Looking to stretch myself and finally start a new table with a homebrew I've been putting together for a few years. Looking for players that are in a similar timezone (PST). I'm also a parent, so would be looking for evening sessions after kiddos are asleep (~7pm PST). The world's lore is loosely inspired by Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series, mashed together with Faerun. Familiarity with source material is not required or expected at all. Lore will be provided on this world, and the unique elemental powers ALL characters will have access to... With this world, there will be some restrictions on the Player Characters. All playable characters at this time will be Humans. Most classes are workable, though the system really lends itself to Martials/Half-Casters. I would highly recommend using one of those. I'm not a major Rules Lawyer, big believer in Rule-of-Cool and being adaptable. Improvising and leaning into the roleplay is where the magic happens. There will challenging, purposeful combat but not a meat-grinder style of a campaign. Getting the right dynamic is very important to me, so will definitely be intentional. Would also love some diversity (both in character and out of character) at the table. If this sounds interesting, please reach back out! Would be happy to discuss further and share more info on the lore to make sure it's a good fit. Regardless, best of luck to you on finding the right table. :) Cheers, Windy

West Marches / Living World
One world and a big pool of players, but no fixed party - whoever signs up that week is who plays.
LGBTQ+ friendly
The table is openly welcoming to LGBTQ+ players.
The world of Phelun is an old one that has seen many conflicts throughout its history. While times seem peaceful, beneath the surface there are whisperings of the Dragon Queen stirring within her prison, strange events occurring upon the continent of Ines, and adventure awaiting upon the lost continent of Asoris. This is an 18+ only server that is a mix of go at your own pace pbp and west marches living world elements.  https://discord.gg/X8dFsNrjBw This is a new Server that has been worked on by one DM for 3 months. It currently features the following:     PbP forums for those who prefer slower RPs.     Living world channels where characters can explore the lands or meet one another in real time in the pub.     DM run Tables. (We are looking for more DMs to help run tables)     Mining, gathering, fishing, and exploration through Avrae commands (commands are ready, but random tables need to be filled out more for variety).     Random in game daily events (not tied to irl days, and still being worked on).     Market to buy items.     Guilds (will need leaders).     Job command to earn coin and a living world channel to RP the work in. (currently being reworked)     Custom Drinking command for the pub.     Player housing.
