Risus

Overview

Risus: The Anything RPG is a universal, rules-light tabletop role-playing game designed by S. John Ross and published by Cumberland Games & Diversions. Originally released in 1993, with its definitive version 2.0 published in 2013, the system was created as a high-velocity framework to run casual, humorous, or completely impromptu gaming sessions across any narrative genre.

Description

Risus prioritizes improvisational storytelling and minimalist mechanics over granular simulation or tactical grid combat. Instead of tracking traditional numeric attributes, skills, or rigid character classes, characters are defined entirely by broad cultural or narrative tropes called "Clichés." The game operates on a high degree of system abstraction, utilizing a completely unified conflict engine where physical combat, intense debates, artistic competitions, and legal battles are resolved using the exact same mathematical pipeline. While frequently utilized for comedic play due to its loose restrictions, the system's structural logic allows it to be scaled for serious or dramatic campaigns.

I have been playing TTRPGs since 2009 and have played a great many games over the past 17 years. I am a Transgender Woman, and I tend to enjoy adventure-focused scenarios where the cozy elements are contextual rather than every session being focused on the mundane. I enjoy combat occasionally, but it's not my favorite. By far, I think I enjoy GMing more than playing, but I am happy to join and play the part in your group if you want me.

43 yr old male from Pittsburgh PA. I have been playing tabletop roleplaying games off and on since 2014. I started out in Rules Lite systems such as Risus and Dread before moving more into heavier games such as D&D3.5, 5e, 5.5. I have also dabbled a bit in other games such as Cyberpunk Red/2020, Call of Cthulhu, Star Wars AEG, etc. I do prefer to play games in more rules lite one shots or campaigns as I don't always have the time now to read a bunch of rulebooks or spend hours crafting a character. I am also a Solo Indie RPG designer of a game called GATEWAY RPG - https://gatewayrpg.itch.io/.  GATEWAY RPG is a free, rules-lite d20 framework engineered for speed, simplicity, and total creative freedom. Built upon the familiar chassis of 5th Edition mechanics, it serves as the ultimate bridge to the world of tabletop gaming. Whether you are introducing friends to their first session or running a high-octane one-shot for seasoned veterans, GATEWAY gets you playing in minutes, not hours. From neon-soaked Cyberpunk streets to grit-filled Noir alleys, if you can imagine it, GATEWAY can run it. I look forward to meeting new people on here and diving into a game or two. And possibly GM-ing a bit along the way in GATEWAY RPG to introduce it to newbies.

Hey everyone! I run a D&D community called Session Zero. We’ve had incredible growth over the last few days with so many amazing new faces joining us, and we are looking to expand our tables! Our main goal is simple: create a relaxed, welcoming space where people from all over can get together and just enjoy playing D&D. What to expect Players Welcome: We have campaigns spinning up all the time. We have games spanning multiple timezones, so if you want to play, there is a seat waiting for you! No more scrolling through Forums for a table! We don't charge anything. Everything is free. Always. Calling DMs: Our demand for games is growing more and more. You won't have an issue finding players to fill them seats! Want to run a game? Then you're more than welcome to host here! With everything in house, no more hunting for players. We make you dedicated campaign channels, DMs sharing tons of resources they've built up and we can help anyway we can! While we are thrilled with our active player base, we are on the hunt for EU based DMs to help run some games. We have a few EU campaigns starting up, but getting more rolling is our top priority! (And of course, we are still welcoming DMs from outside the EU as well!) DM Perks: I have a large DnDBeyond book selection I share with DMs running games in here. Fully free! The Vibe: Whether you're a longstanding DM looking to find a new group of players to take on a magical adventure, or perhaps wanting to get into the DM chair for the first time but need some support, you will be more than welcome. Our player base is a mix from never playing a game before to years of experience. If you're a player who's only just picking up your first quest or have been on many adventures, come grab a stool in our laid-back 18+ community. It's not just 5e! We're happy to host pretty much any VTTRPG! Patherfinder, Daggerheart, 5E, 5.5 etc!

High Guard Rules

Traveller
High Guard Rules brings Classic Traveller's Book 5: High Guard starship construction and combat rules to the web. Ship Designer walks you through building a warship from the keel up — hull, jump and maneuver drives, power plant, computer, weapons, and screens — following the Book 5 construction sequence, with every calculation (tonnage, energy points, agility, cost) handled for you automatically. Combat Arena lets you pit your designed ships against another player, or fly solo against an AI opponent — resolving the full Book 5 ship-to-ship combat sequence round by round: Battle Formation, Initiative, Range, Pre-Combat Decisions (break-off, emergency agility, surrender), Combat, Damage, Breakthrough Combat, Pursuit, and a Terminal step for boarding, repair, and crew transfer. Ship Library keeps your saved designs on hand, and Meeting Room is where you find another player and start a battle. Whether you're building a fleet, sparring with the AI, or working through a firefight against another captain, this site handles the math so you can focus on the tactics.
