Description

The old man leaned back in his rocker, wood creaking slowly beneath him. He tipped his hat just enough to look at you proper—one eye catching the porch light. “You think you know the shape of the world…” He lets that sit a moment. “Think it’s all roads and towns, lines on a map. Edges that make sense.” A faint smile tugs at his mouth. Not kind. Not unkind. Just… tired. “Then one day you step off the edge of it. Not far—just enough.” He rocks once. Slow. “And that’s when it hits you…” He taps the side of his head. “The shape you knew?” A quiet breath. “That was the lie.” The night hums around him—crickets, wind through the trees. “Sixty years I’ve been on this earth. I’ve heard dead men speak names they shouldn’t know.” He looks past you now, like he’s remembering something he’d rather not. “Seen the woods swallow folks whole… without so much as a footprint left behind.” A long pause. Then, softer: “Ain’t nothin’ what it seems.” The rocker creaks again. “Question is…” His eyes find yours. “…what’re you gonna do when it starts noticing you?” Story-focused DM and two-to-three players are looking to build a small, roleplay-heavy group of adults 18 or older for a cinematic Hunter: The Reckoning chronicle. The game is expected to begin in early to mid-August, giving everyone time to develop characters, establish connections, and make sure the group fits well together. This game begins grounded—small towns, backroads, and things that don’t quite add up—and gradually expands into something stranger and more unsettling. Expect a mix of investigation, moral choices, and slow-burn tension rather than constant combat. The story will unfold across different regions of the United States, beginning in Appalachia and moving outward as connections between events begin to surface. What starts as a series of isolated incidents may not be as disconnected as it first appears. As a storyteller, I focus on immersion, pacing, and giving players room to shape the narrative. Your characters matter, your choices matter, and the world will respond to them. We’re looking for players who enjoy roleplay, atmosphere, character development, and collaborative storytelling. New and experienced players are both welcome. If you’re interested, tell me a little about the kind of character you’d like to play—or the kinds of moments you enjoy most in a game. As a forewarning, I use AI to create my games because I work like an adult and don't have a lot of time to sketch maps and such.

Special Investigations, A Play By Post Hunter Game

Paid game
The Game Master charges a fee to run the game.
The streets of Los Angeles are plagued by supernatural phenomena like no other. With that in mind, some higher command in the Los Angeles Police Department is maintaining an off-the-books task force that deals with trying to hunt down these issues. You are being transferred to a division enigmatically referred to as "Special Investigations". Everyone assumes that Special Investigations is just some special PR name for cases involving high-value individuals, but you'll come to find out there is much more to it than that. You are a member of the LAPD (though not necessarily a cop yourself, often members from the motor pool, forensics, or the like can be transferred in) who has unknowingly started to see and be aware of the supernatural. It could be anything as dangerous as witnessing a vampire feeding or genuinely discovering that the dead walk the streets near Hollywood Forever cemetery. Whatever you decide that supernatural you have come into contact you are a budding hunter, and this government-backed organization wants to put you on the path of fighting these supernatural threats to your city. It's time to Protect and Serve to a degree you never thought possible, but you better be ready to work nights! Please be mindful that this is a Play By Post Game, which will be done almost exclusively through text. Daily plot progression posts will be made throughout the week, and players will get a guarantee of 4-5 responses from me per day at minimum as we develop the story. Players are charged weekly at the 'session' time posted on the game information page. Join link:https://startplaying.games/adventure/cmrl7zsli003dlc04zwkbmhto

UNBOUND Playtest

Homebrew

Playtest
The game is still being tested, and your feedback is part of the point.
Looking For: 3-5 players for an in-person playtest Location: Millbrook / Prattville / Wetumpka (Montgomery area works too) Play Style: In-person, tabletop, fantasy adventure Experience Needed: None Character Creation: Required (part of the playtest) Schedule: Flexible evenings or weekends System: UNBOUND, a custom system I've been developing I'm looking for 3-5 players to test out my anti-essentialist, leveled point buy TTRPG system. You build your character according to your fantasy, not class cages. Perks and Limitations define your build, and let you make your character the way YOU want, not the way a rulebook says you must. Every level gives you Build Points to grow your character in any direction, with no forced archetypes. Combat is dynamic, using Active Defenses, contested rolls, and armor as a damage reduction percentage. Magic is fluid, and almost any caster can heal, so nobody needs to play the healbot.  Come help my test out my system and try out something you didn't know you needed.

"Year 0" Prequel One-Shots

Homebrew
House rules, a custom setting, or a system the Game Master wrote themselves.
Newbie friendly
New players are welcome, and nobody expects you to know the rules beforehand.
Hello hello! I am Matthew. I am a new DM building a homebrew world, and I want your help filling in its history. Before my main campaign begins, I am running a series of one-shots set in "Year 0". This is when an apocalyptic cataclysm nearly ends the world. The future campaign will be set centuries afterward. When? I run my business from home and have a family, so M-F during the day works best. These one-shots will take place Tuesday through Thursday, between 9:00am and 2:00pm Central time (chicago area). If you work from home, work nights, or live in a time zone where this is your evening, this table is for you! What is it? You will play low- to mid-level heroes surviving the chaos of a larger conflict. You might be pulling off a desperate heist for a magical artifact, escorting refugees to safety, or holding the line against impossible odds. All of this happens under the shadow of the First King, whose mysterious sacrifice during this era saved the realm but cursed his bloodline forever. Legacy? Yup If you survive, I have a "Fortune & Fate" roll planned to help determine your character's epilogue. Though you will have plenty of creative control over their outcomes. Survive or not - your characters will become the myths, ancestors, and founders in the larger campaign!
